چکیده

A pervasive Renewable Energy Source (RES) exploitation poses a wide range of issues to electric grids, which the enhancement grid flexibility may mitigate. There are several approaches improve flexibility, and significant help will come from efficient, reliable, durable cheap storage technologies. Inevitably, different technologies be needed since power energy spectra characterise RES issues. In category high capacity-to-power ratio technologies, Pumped Thermal Electricity Storage (PTES) is becoming more popular. Such technology aims at replacing Hydro (PHES), it suited for daily cyclic operation (load shifting). this paper, Brayton PTES with liquid sensible heat storages studied. Compared standard system equipped packed beds, allows straightforward state charge estimation, control and, potentially, better usage volume. Through parametric analysis involving main design specifications, performance assessed under realistic assumptions. The resulting figures provide an exhaustive characterisation achievable by system, useful fair comparison between other competing

Thermodynamic analysis of pumped thermal electricity storage

The increasing use of renewable energy technologies for electricity generation, many of which have an unpredictably intermittent nature, will inevitably lead to a greater need for electricity storage. Although there are many existing and emerging storage technologies, most have limitations in terms of geographical constraints, high capital cost or low cycle life, and few are of sufficient scale...

Thermodynamic efficiency of pumped heat electricity storage.

Pumped heat electricity storage (PHES) has been recently suggested as a potential solution to the large-scale energy storage problem. PHES requires neither underground caverns as compressed air energy storage (CAES) nor kilometer-sized water reservoirs like pumped hydrostorage and can therefore be constructed anywhere in the world. However, since no large PHES system exists yet, and theoretical...

Thermal energy storage – overview and specific insight into nitrate salts for sensible and latent heat storage

Thermal energy storage (TES) is capable to reduce the demand of conventional energy sources for two reasons: First, they prevent the mismatch between the energy supply and the power demand when generating electricity from renewable energy sources. Second, utilization of waste heat in industrial processes by thermal energy storage reduces the final energy consumption. This review focuses mainly ...

Modern Topology& Thermal Analysis of Drive for Variable Speed Pumped Storage Power Plant

Given the significant power generation and consumption of variable-speed pumped storage power plants (VSPSPs), it is crucial to enhance drive methods and decrease drive losses, thereby increasing productivity. This paper proposes the topology for VSPSP drivers with two level voltage source converters (2LVSC) with 6+1 converters. Hydraulic and electrical VSPSP models are presented, following whi...

Energy Storage Research in Switzerland - The SCCER Heat & Electricity Storage.

The electrochemical reduction of CO2 has been extensively studied over the past decades. Nevertheless, this topic has been tackled so far only by using a very fundamental approach and mostly by trying to improve kinetics and selectivities toward specific products in half-cell configurations and liquid-based electrolytes. The main drawback of this approach is that, due to the low solubility of C...
